Start your WEkEO journey with the WEkEO JupyterLab!

October 6, 2021

Are you looking to develop an application or carry out research using marine, climate, atmospheric or land environmental data? Take your project to the next level with JupyterLab, which is freely available in all WEkEO plans.

What is the JupyterLab and what benefits does it offer?

Jupyter Lab is a web-based interactive development environment for Jupyter notebooks, code, and data. The WEkEO JupyterLab is used primarily as a testing and training space that allows users to test workflows and conduct small-scale analyses. It is configured to enable users to execute Python code within the WEkEO infrastructure, taking full advantage of the Harmonised Data Access (HDA).

Within the WEkEO JupyterLab, interactive Jupyter Notebooks are provided that explain the basics of how to access WEkEO data and how Copernicus marine, climate, atmospheric and land environmental data can be used for a wide range of applications.

The Jupyter environment is embedded in WEkEO, thus providing a platform for users to access and analyse data using Python code, as well as create, use, and share notebooks that contain live code, equations, visualisations and text.

As part of ongoing training activities, WEkEO experts are continuously developing and updating a repository of notebooks to support new and experienced users of Copernicus data, as well incorporating new tools and platforms for working with Jupyter Notebooks.

With exercises designed by WEkEO experts, access to a pre-configured Python environment and an adaptable and easy-to-use computing environment, the WEkEO JupyterLab is the starting place of your WEkEO journey.

You can find out more about how to use the WEkEO JupyterLab on the WEkEO YouTube channel, where you will find many other useful videos about the JupyterLab and Jupyter Notebooks.

How can you access it?

In order to access the WEkEO JupyterLab, you will first need to register and sign into your WEkEO account. Once you have signed in, you will need to go to your dashboard and click on JupyterHub. From there, you will be redirected to the WEkEO JupyterLab environment and will be able to explore the resources available, including Jupyter Notebooks. More information on how to access the WEkEO JupyterLab can be found here

What other benefits do you get with WEkEO?

WEkEO is implemented by the institutions in charge of generating Copernicus data and products. With the harmonised data access API, the data infrastructure between those institutions and WEkEO is directly linked, rather than being duplicated, allowing WEkEO users to uniformly access the whole WEkEO catalogue with the most updated data.

Additionally, WEkEO provides expert user support to all its users, regardless of the user’s plan. The users benefit from the expertise of the entities and scientists behind the Copernicus data and products.
