On June 22&23, the WEkEO hackathon will take place on our platform, aiming to support creative and data-skilled people in conceiving tools to improve climate resilience and positively impact our environment using Copernicus data.

This one-of-a-kind journey will start with 4 warm-up sessions (from June 12 to 20), for teams to get ready to develop their innovative projects within the final 48h race. To unlock their full potential, teams will have access to all the WEkEO platform’s features and will be guided by expert mentors and WEkEO user support.

Teams will get to address one of the four thematic challenges: Coastal, Arctic, Health, Energy, or can choose the bold choice of the Wildcard challenge.

From visualising data in new and exciting ways to developing dashboards of indicators and creating what-if scenarios, possibilities for taking on these challenges are endless.

Why organise a hackathon?

The Copernicus data available on WEkEO can help in many regards to support decision-making, in the implementation of EU directives related to climate change and the achievement of the SDGs. In this hackathon, participants are challenged to come up with innovative ideas which would support effective and sustainable policymaking, management, and planning.

Prizes for winners include - but are not limited to, a one-year access to WEkEO paid cloud computing plan providing processing tools and virtual machines; pitching and showcasing opportunities.
